Helen told us we were going as a group to Shamian Island. But when we got on the bus, she told us she was taking us to stores for silk, pearls, jade, etc. where she could get us a good deal. We weren't too thrilled (remembering our boring shopping stops in Beijing last time.) But this turned out to be a fun time to practice walking with the other families.
Inside and down in the circle, there turned out to be a huge mall full of jewelry. It was hot and stuffy, and we couldn't find the toilet, but the jewelry was pretty to look at, and all the kids got to walk and play.

Willow was all about walking in her new squeaky shoes. This area by the silk store was in a big circle we walked around.
Looking at the colorful stones. And amazingly, no pressure to buy!
See - it was a giant mall of jewelry. Who buys all this?! Then we played outside while waiting for the bus and dodging bicycles carrying loads of big water coolers. Everywhere we went, people were not shy about prolonged staring. You'd think in Guangzhou, adoptive families would be old news, but I guess it is always fascinating.
