First day of preschool

The Drop Off (9:30 AM)
She ran into the house and started playing.

The Pick Up (12:30 PM)
She had fallen asleep about 30 minutes ago.
I think she had a good time!

backyard bubbles

Playing at Moritown

The padded play area is always a nice place to relax and stretch out.  It's fun to jump, dance, roll, and look at the adults on the sidelines.

Ariel was ready to go after a girl in purple pants plowed her over.  The girl apologized, and it wasn't a big deal.

miscellaneous Yokota

Gina, my favorite hair cutter in Japan.  She works at the Yokota beauty shop.  She also sings R&B with a band in downtown Tokyo.

Ariel checking out her new preschool.  It's in a lady's house at Yokota, inspired by our friend Barbara's "Dream Academy".  Barbara and family are now in Alaska with a new set of triplet boys.  We miss them!

Sarah, the preschool teacher.  Ariel's class will be 2 mornings a week, with a maximum of 6 kids.

Ariel was most interested in Sarah's fish, Sushi-chan.

At Kids' Club at the Enlisted Club with Anna and Noah.  Kids' Club is a big, crazy, loud dinner every Wednesday.  Ariel loves it, especially the balloons, and sitting with random people, especially older girls.

Noah and Ariel look a lot alike these days, with super-cute noses, and hair that grows straight down over their faces, because they both have the double swirl in their hair.  The double swirl is called "tsumuji" in Japan.  Noah's parents, Anna & Lance, are from Hawaii.  Lance works with Jeff.

Yoshino Baigo (Ome Plum Park)

My friend, Megan, and I took Ariel to the plum park.  The plum trees weren't in full bloom, but we still enjoyed the hillside paths.  At the entrance, we found this roller slide that Ariel liked.  Megan took this video.  The man was working at the park, and probably wearing a mask because of allergies.

Megan and Ariel.  Megan has two kids who are now teenagers.  Her husband, Hank, is a helicopter pilot.  We know them from our last assignment.  It's fun to have them here!  They've been stationed in England, so are no strangers to tiny streets and left-sided driving.

hula hoop!

Sayonara, Mallory

We honored Mallory (center in denim jacket) and her mom, Kim, at an Italian restaurant off base.  They left for McGuire AFB in New Jersey.  Mallory & Kim were our Kindermusik classmates last year, and they helped us out with babysitting some while Jeff was deployed.

I thought this was a funny picture, because the kids weren't sure about posing as a group.  Left to right: Ariel, Madison, Mallory, Lindon, Tristan, and Connor.

more good times in Singapore

Indian food at Komala Vilas in Little India.  Even though it was a bit spicy, Ariel liked it!

So did we.  This was our 15-year wedding anniversary dinner. We accidentally celebrated a day early because our watches had the wrong date (because of leap year.)

Lunch and catching up with Bruce at East Coast Park.  Bruce used to work with Jeff. Now he's retired and living with his family in Singapore.  His wife and daughter were busy with work and school, so we missed seeing them.  It was nice to catch up with him.  This restaurant was beachfront, so Ariel and I got to play in the waves.

Chinatown of course!  We had foot massages, and a nice Chinese grandma helped entertain Ariel. We also found a healthy vegetarian restaurant there.

Other things we did in Singapore: checked out a movie theater at Orchard Road (Shaw Cinemas), I went running through Fort Canning Park and the river & waterfront, shopped for Indian groceries, visited Mt.Emily hostel and park, played & read at the Central Library.  I'm so glad we got to visit Singapore one more time before leaving Asia.  Hopefully we'll make it back some day.  I could live there!

Singapore Botanical Garden

This is something I've always wanted to do in Singapore.  The Garden is really a huge, relaxing park. It reminded us of the park near the China Hotel Marriott in Guangzhou.  Except without the air pollution.

Always carry a swimsuit or change of clothes! Water play is everywhere here.

 at Vivo City

Vivo City

Vivo City is our favorite place to stay cool in Singapore. It's a big mall on the waterfront, with a play area, great food, and a movie theater. We've been busy, so I'm a bit behind on blogging about Singapore.

Elmo Says "Achoo!"

We spent last week in Singapore. Here is a video of Ariel reading Elmo Says "Achoo!" to herself in the hotel room:

Special Friends

I met the Belts (Laura, Virginia, and David) by accident last summer when I was on the wrong floor of a tower.  They have become special friends.

Ginny is especially good with Ariel.  Ariel likes to play with her during doughnut time after church.

our big blizzard

We had a big snow on February 27th.

It snowed heavily almost all day, then mostly melted the next day.

It was magical!  But we hope it's our last snow for the year.
